InnoNative is a multimedia creative studio based on Haida Gwaii that brings traditional Indigenous storytelling and values into contemporary mediums.
The studio is run by award-winning Haida storyteller and entrepreneur Patrick Shannon; and works with organizations, Indigenous communities, and businesses from across Canada, approaching projects from a cross-cultural perspective to tell unique stories and empower communities in telling their own.
InnoNative was started in 2015, bringing together Patrick’s decade of experience in the Vancouver film & design industries, and business partner Yolanda Clatworthy’s unique approach to community engagement. Together the two started a shared co-working space (X̱aayda Hub) in Skidegate, BC, and travelled the province teaching media and technology workshops and classes to Indigenous entrepreneurs and youth.
Today InnoNative is based out of Haida Gwaii, with a creative team spread across Canada, and regularly operates out of Vancouver, Toronto, Haida Gwaii and everywhere in-between.
Youth mentorship is the foundation of our work, and have mentored over 100 youth in media arts from all across Canada. Our philosophy is that youth are the future, so let’s give them real opportunities to grow. We teach workshops and hire young people on almost all of our projects, supporting the next generation of storytellers.
